Features of WhatsApp Video Calling
The launch of WhatsApp had really raised the bars for mobile app development company to develop better apps than this. However, there’s no replacement found till date. And now by adding the video calling feature, it is nearly impossible to beat it.
Unlike other apps, WhatsApp allows multi-tasking during a video call. When you connect the call, you can choose either the rear or front camera of your smartphone. Users can switch between the two during the video call.
Also, a user can opt if the preview of their video is the main picture in the call or the incoming video from their caller. They can also minimize the call window to open other things like, chats, messages, etc with the same caller, and the video call won’t get disconnected. Even the smaller window can be moved anywhere on the screen.
Often users get worried about their data consumption when they hear about video calling. WhatsApp app does not have a separate tab for listing the data usage of video calling. All the call data is clubbed under one tab in the Data Usage section of both the iOS and Android devices. In our case, we used 3G network for a 2-minute session of video calling on WhatsApp. Overall, there is no much data consumption in WhatsApp video calling.
When it’s a name like WhatsApp, quality is not any issue and this has been proved once again. According to WhatsApp, the quality of videos automatically adjusts itself depending on the users’ network speed and quality. The company has made sure that the video calls are real fast and reliable all the times. Product Lead – WhatsApp, Manpreet Singh told that the company will try to continue the call as much as possible without any interruptions. “There is a whole diversity of connection speeds, even within networks. We are working to expand that range,” he added.
No Group Calling
While WhatsApp video calling supports multi-tasking, it doesn’t support group calling for now. But, there are multiple malicious links to invite people to download the same. It reads, “You’re invited to try WhatsApp Video Calling feature. This malicious link ensures user security as only those who receive this invitation can enable this feature. On clicking the link, the user will be asked to invite more friends for video calling to activate on their device. However, these links can also be spam or malicious links and can harm the device.
